Between 2016-2018, Margarita traveled to the Middle East, Asia, and Eastern Europe to perform Health Policy Analysis of countries ranging from UAE to Singapore to Germany. Though she was in healthcare since the late 90s, she was shocked just how different and complicated the US healthcare system really was, especially in the field of Mental Health. It is heavily regulated with policies that don't serve everyone and don't see the patient as a consumer. So, in 2018 after 20 years in healthcare operations, international training, Healthcare MBA, fluency in insurance terminology, and regulatory compliance, she launched MK Medical Solutions, LLC, with one mission, to provide clarity in changing healthcare with a vision helping health care professionals design a modern patient-centric experience that funnels to benefit all healthcare stakeholders by reducing cost, decreasing burnout, and contributing to a health system that works for all. Until COVID amplified the game.
Within the first few months of 2020, it was evident that our health care system was in real trouble. And, thanks to COVID, we're on the brink of the greatest mental health crisis in modern history. Thankfully, federal and state-issued executive orders made it possible for healthcare and mental wellness professionals to reach patients across state lines through temporary licensure, registration, and certifications. Unfortunately, no other field in the USA has as much variance in policy as mental health, making navigation of requirements and health care policies incredibly cumbersome. A provider may be an LMHC in NY, but an LPCC in CA, LIMHP in NE, LCMHCs in NC, and so on. Further, Marriage and Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors are not reimbursed by Medicare, while a whopping 3,995 or 7.2% of Psychiatrists opted out of Medicare in 2020.
Winston Churchill said, "Never let a good crisis go to waste". For Margarita, the quote holds a special meaning because COVID took her father. As a result, she uses her father's memory to simplify and humanize health care policy.
Thanks to her therapist in another state, she was able to start healing through the wonders of a modernized healthcare experience.
COVID changed the game. It exposed our inefficiencies in healthcare with regard to cost, access, policy, and workflow. We now see that there's a great need for improvement. Patients are not seen as consumers, while the EHR and health insurance companies add significant administrative burnout to the providers and their support staff. That's where we come in. We get it and we work to fix it because we too have been burned out by healthcare both as providers and as patients. That's why we use our experience to help you design a modern healthcare experience that leverages technology to reduce cost, eliminate administrative burnout and help the health system work better for everyone. We provide clarity in changing healthcare by simplifying and humanizing healthcare so that you can do the work you love.
Margarita strongly believes in the strength of empowering women in leadership excellence and helping them thrive. That's why for over 5 years, she has served on the Board of Directors of WHEN, or Women’s Healthcare Executive Network of South Florida. She's been featured on awarenow, OwlGuru, and Ticker News.
Margarita's experience includes overlooking the medical billing revenue cycle, piloting a pediatric nonprofit rehab, managing contractual efforts for the largest specialty Managed Services Organization in the country, designing emergency management operations, and teaching 12,000 therapists, and more. She has also interviewed NYT best-selling authors, links to the interviews and soundbites are available below. The work gave her a profound insight into what clinicians want and need to do the work they love and how it impacts patients. The team consists of healthcare professionals who completed their higher education in the USA, including Arianna Silcot-Lo, a diligent healthcare professional. When not working on projects for MK Medical Solutions, she is developing and designing a healthcare infrastructure for the Ministry of Health Monserrat and specializes in brand management. Arianna speaks Chinese, Korean, and Spanish and serves as President of WHEN.
